ÁRBOL ALMENDRO DE MONTAÑA (Dipterix panamesis)

The almendro amarillo is a native specie from low land forest, it can get 60 meters tall and 2 meters of diameter. Is a very important tree because is the unique tree that The green macaw use for nesting.

Also produce more than 60% of the food for the green macaw that is based in lipids of the seeds.

The macaws eat the fruit but does not scatter the seeds, this are scatter by the rodents, water, gravity.

It is also a tree of great timber value. On September 16, 2008, (Constitutional Chamber of Costa Rica) through Judgment 2008-13426, definitively prohibited the use, exploitation and extraction of the almond tree while the green macaw and it are in danger of extinction.

El almendro amarillo es una especie nativa del bosque de bajura, es de porte alto que puede llegar medir hasta 60 metros de altura y su diámetro puede llegar hasta 2 metros.

Es sumamente importante ya que es el único árbol que la lapa verde utiliza para su anidación, también produce más del 60% del alimento para los pichones de esta especie que se basa en lípidos del semilla.

Las lapas comen el fruto pero no dispersan la semilla, estas caen al suelo y son dispersadas por roedores, agua, y por gravedad.

Es ádemas un árbol de gran valor maderable.El 16 de septiembre del 2008, la Sala IV (Sala Constitucional de Costa Rica) mediante Sentencia 2008-13426, prohibió en definitiva el aprovechamiento, explotación y extracción del almendro mientras la lapa verde y éste se encuentren en peligro de extinción.
